Pah Ke’s, Kane`ohe
I’ve always wanted to do an entry like this: Before and after my precariousness.
Tomorrow is a party for “Uncle Naka“‘s retirement and birthday. Only certain family members and spouses/SOs are invited. So I got invited.
It’s at Pah Ke’s, a Chinese restaurant where they serve MSG up the yin yang (pun intended), bowls of rice that do not glimmer in light no matter how long you stare at the small grains, and the flavor of pan-fried flounder drenched in gravy is murdered by unnecessary bouts of sodium.
But that’s not even the beginning.
Because they lack an alcohol license, they rationalize this with a corkage fee of $5.
Let’s move on to the details that matter: what do I wear, where do I sit, what do I say, how should I eat, and how serious do I get with conversations?
I think I will stick to a sun dress and wear glasses. I think I will be flexible and play it safe so as to not upset anyone, God forbid. I promise will not refer to my phone so as to avoid boredom, quiet, or to simply avoid awkward situations.
Whoa. That’s a big deal. Lately I’ve been treating my phone as if it’s an iPhone- an appendage I cannot ignore or put to use.
I don’t want to say much about myself so as to attract attention although my goal in life is to attract attention. See next post.
